Happy World Book Day!

April 23rd is World Book Day.

From the archives, here is a Canada Book Day poster I designed just after the Ice Age. At the time, posters found in schools and book shops were all slick, Photoshop, layered, grotesque works that all had zero lasting value. I decided to create a poster that was the opposite and to stand out from this herd of sheep. The poster was created using scratchboard by hand, then scanning each area of colour and built using bitmap images including subtle flaws and poor registration in the final printing.

The Writers Trust of Canada, whom sponsored this effort printed 150,000 posters and 3 million bookmarks (one for every student in Canada). It was a success and resulting in the Trust adapting the Canada Goose image for their own branding for about 15 years.
